Access All Areas
LMT strongly believes in equality and wants to make our Old Chapel Music Studio buildings as accessible as possible, on all levels - ACCESS ALL AREAS
With a little help from our friends at Keepmoat, we have made a start, but the nature of the building means we need an enclosed lift to allow access to all floors for wheelchair users and those who find stairs impossible.
We are fundraising for a platform lift to enable this and will adapt the building to fit. We have had a generous offer from Terry Lifts to use our site as a case study, which enables a substantial discount on the cost of the equipment. We are very grateful to them for this.
Founded in 2009, LMT has funded rehearsal, recording time and equipment hire at Old Chapel Music Studios each year.
This has saved local young musicians and amateur bands.
- £1804 in 2010
- £5650 in 2011
- £5758 in 2012
- £4137 in 2013
- £9999 in 2014
In 2015 we are on target to hit over £26,000 thanks to support we have raised from partners and funders.
We are now working with more young bands than ever and have a regular roster of 26 bands benefitting from free time every week, many others are subsidised.
Many of those we have helped over our first 5 years have now gone on to work in the industry, either as professional bands, engineers, road crew, instrument techs.

The target for the lift and all required works to the building is £25,000.
April 2016: Festival Republic and Leeds Music Trust continue to invest in grassroots music in Leeds.
Festival Republic have generously offered their support over the last few years. Melvin Benn, Managing Director of Festival Republic, commented: "Our partnership with LMT is very important to me, and Festival Republic, particularly Leeds festival. Developing young talent and mentoring where possible is invaluable to the future of the music industry." Melvin has generously donated enough money to enable LMT to fund its first dedicated worker, to promote the work and support the running of the charity.
Nicola Greenan, Trustee of LMT and Chair of engagement for Leeds Bid for European Capital of Culture said "It's integral that we keep strong links with artists that have come out of Leeds and been successful and that we continue to support and nurture young musicians in the city with access to free space, mentoring and to build a sense of community."
With a big year ahead from developing a dedicated rehearsal space for Kaiser Chiefs to our continued work to support young musicians in Leeds to gain free access to rehearsal space and also develop an LMT volunteer scheme, this donation could not have come at a better time for the charity. We couldn't thank Melvin, and festival republic, enough.

LMT seeks to raise funds for specific projects at Old Chapel Music Studios and around the city.
We currently provide free rehearsal and recording time for 23 young bands in partnership with MAS Records. This has grown from 6 bands 3 years ago and continues to grow.
We run our own 'out of school' music tasters sessions, teaching and mentoring sessions free of charge to young people.
We subsidise room and equipment hire for teachers, enabling regular singing and instrument lessons.
